What Are Traffic Exchanges?
You know the problem of getting targeted traffic to your site. It's hard to get to the top of the search engines. And, it's equally hard parting with a quarter every time someone clicks to your site. So, what's a guy or a gal to do?
An alternative many people use are traffic exchanges. There are lots of traffic exchanges out there. They all work by showing websites to members so members can have their site shown to other members. Usually the exchange rate is 4 to 1 for free members. That is, for every four sites you examine, your site will be displayed once.
Every exchange requires you to view each site for a minimum amount of time. This may be 20 seconds for free members. For paid members the time may decrease somewhat.
So, how do traffic exchanges work?
After you sign up you can enter the sites you want displayed. You can use affiliate sites (with your affiliate ID) or your own sites. Some traffic exchanges allow you to enter just a few sites while others allow 10 or more sites to be entered. Paid members usually can enter more sites than free members.
Then you surf for credits. Surfing typically involves viewing one site after another. After the minimum viewing time a link appears that allows you to surf to the next site or you just refresh your browser to bring up the next site. You typically do not get to pick the sites you view.
One such traffic exchange of this type is Link Crews.
Another type of traffic exchange uses a tool bar that is installed on your browser, The tool bar allows you to click to view a site. Often, the tool bar displays a short description of the site so you can choose the types of sites you visit. This is a little better than simply visiting random sites.
An example of a traffic exchange with a tool bar is Free Traffic Bar.
The traffic exchange I like best displays a web page with 8 ads for targeted sites within the topical categories you choose. This means that you see ads you're interested in. You can then click on links to view the sites that catch your interest. Of course, you also need to enter a link text, description and categories for each site you submit. This means that only members who are interested in your sites will get to see your ads. Now, that's targeted marketing.
My favorite traffic exchange with ads for sites and categories is TrafficSwarm. You often get bonus points when viewing other sites. I once got 50 extra points for viewing a single site. Perhaps that's one reason I think TrafficSwarm is the best traffic exchange.
